World Poker Tour in Ireland
At the end of Day 1 in the 2012 World Poker Tour Ireland, the Irishman, Dave Callaghan found himself at the top of the leaderboard. The World Poker Tour in Ireland is currently taking place at the Citywest Hotel that is located in Dublin. Day 2 of the World Poker Tour Ireland started with 195 players remaining out of the original 338 players that started out playing in the poker tournament. Players are working hard to stay in the game in the hopes of winning the top prize of 202,680. While 36 players ended the day still in the running for the prize money, and knowing that they have each ended up in the money, there were other players who have fallen short of ending the 2012 World Poker Tour Ireland in the money. These players included Dave Callaghan, who had ended the first day of the tournament at the top of the leaderboard. Other notable players who have fallen short of the money include Andy Black, Sam El Sayed, Tatjana Pasalic, Toby Lewis, LeoMargets, Sam Holden, Kara Scott, and Jon Kalmer. Two former World Poker Tour champions, Jake Cody, and James Dempsey are also not in the running for ending in the money. Cody was out of the game after Andrew Wayman won a hand, and soon after, Dempsey was eliminated when Jim ONeill won with pocket queens. At this stage the player with the highest chip count going into Day 3 is Dave Shallow. The Englishman will be entering the third day of the World Poker Tournament Ireland with a 951,000 chip count. Shallow is an unknown in live poker tournaments, but has been doing very well for himself in the online poker world. Other players who are at the top of the leaderboard going into Day 3 are Franck Boyer with 873,000 chips, Steve Watts with 628,000 chips and William Dorey with 576,000 chips.

Double Challenge Jackpot Is Over $5,000
Posted by Bradley, December 29, 2011 More and more players are playing the nightly Double Challenge tournaments, competing not only for their share of the prize money but also for a chance to win the Double Challenge Progressive Jackpot, which a few days ago passed $5,000. At this moment, the jackpot stands at $5,179.50. Three times in the last week the number of players participating in the tournaments set a new record, and this only serves to boost the jackpot even faster. Buy-ins to the Double Challenge tournaments, one staged at 21:35 GMT and the other staged at 21:40, are $1 + $1, with the first dollar going to the tournament prize pool and the second dollar being added to the progressive jackpot. A player who manages to win both Double Challenges on the same night wins not only the regular prize money but also the jackpot as well. The Double Challenge jackpot was last won on September 17th, when “Burbon11″ from Spain captured a $2,170 prize. The jackpot previously passed $5,000 in May when Jcambi from Argentina won the all-time record Double Challenge jackpot prize of $5,356. That record will most likely be broken before the next time a player succeeds in winning both of the nightly tournaments.

Strategy with Kristy: Jared Tendler on the Mental Game of Poker Pt 1
December 15 2011, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Jared Bleznick Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Seidman Discusses His Book, Easy Game Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Robl Discusses Televised Cash Game Hands Share It Tags Poker Strategy, PokerNews Podcast, Psychology of Poker, South Point, PokerNews Strategy Print Jared Tendler is the author of The Mental Game of Poker and has coached more than 200 players from around the world. Equipped with a masters degree in psychology and years of experience as a performance coach, Tendler has become one of poker’s most respected teachers of the mental side of poker, which includes tilt, emotional control, confidence, motivation, and fear. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point, Tendler comes on the show for the first of a two-part interview. He discusses how to approach improving your mental game, the Adult Learning Model, and more. Here is a snippet from the interview: “There is so much to learn, and sometimes, when you become more aware of how much more there is, that can be overwhelming. It can cause you to do what youre learning not as well. I think its really important to create some order with what [you're working on]. Because there is a step-by-step process to reach unconscious competence, youre goal becomes to not try to learn everything all at once because the mind cant handle it,” Tendler said. He continued, “Instead, try to focus on key elements of your game and things that you know are the biggest priorities right now. Do that and do that consistently, even if you know that there is other stuff to improve on, focus on one thing at a time, especially with big concepts. You can really do much more than that. Once you really master that, then a whole other world opens up, and then you can take on some other smaller things. Then, you can do it far more easily because youve mastered that concept. Lets say its table position. An important component to having good preflop play is understanding the importance of position. So, once you understand that and the complexity of it, then the next concepts open up.” In the book, you talk about how all players have a range for how well they are playing at any given time. A player has an A, B, and C game. Can you talk about those ranges and why it is important for players to understand that a range exists? So many people have this illusion that its possible to be at your absolute best all the time, and they are constantly striving for that. But, in my mind, its really impossible to do that. Its extraordinarily difficult to even try to do that consistently. When youre in the process of learning something, you have to make mistakes. Its impossible to not make mistakes. There’s always going to be this gradation, this range of your ability. And thats assuming youre mentally perfect. Theres always going to be a range for that, as well. If you get a little bit of poor sleep, youre mind is not going to be quite as sharp. Theres going to be things going on at the table, either distracting you or causing some frustration. There are always these subtle nuances that are just part of the game and honestly, part of any game, that make it impossible to constantly be playing at an absolute peak. It is possible to try and prepare yourself to do it more consistently, but that takes a lot of understanding about the things that are going to throw your game off. And also, it takes a real understanding of the things youre learning so that you can be prepared to make the corrections accurately and stay playing at a high level.

Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Kane “Nascar_1949″ Kalas
December 01 2011, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Robl Discusses Televised Cash Game Hands Strategy with Kristy: Andrew Seidman Discusses His Book, Easy Game Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Olivier Busquet Discusses Tough Spots Share It Tags PokerNews Podcast, PokerNews Strategy, Cash Poker, Texas Holdem Print Kane “Nascar_1949″ Kalas, 22, is a video instructor on the Poker Phenom training website. In the first two months of playing poker professionally, Kalas went from playing $0.50/$1 to $25/$50 no-limit hold’em. He continues to play high-stakes cash games online and recently moved from Miami, Florida, to Costa Rica. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point, Kalas talks in depth about playing small pocket pairs in six-max no-limit hold’em cash games, demonstrated by hand histories in a $25/$50 game. Here is a snippet from the interview: Let’s talk about the first hand. You open to $128 from under the gun with pocket sixes. An opponent named, “Flufferd” reraises to $400 from the big blind. What are your thoughts on when you can flat a hand like this in position? First of all, “Flufferd’s” raise size was pretty small. He made it $400, and I’d expect most people to make it $450 or in the high $400s. That definitely gave me a little incentive to call. Also, the fact that he three-bet out of the blinds is pertinent in this situation. I probably would very rarely be calling with pocket pairs 100 big blinds deep out of position versus a regular player. I haven’t played too much with “Flufferd,” but I think based on his play, he was competent. When you get 200 or 300 big blinds deep, it becomes much more lucrative when you’re out of position. In this case, though, I was in position and getting a good price to call. I do think that “Flufferd” has a tight range since I opened under the gun, however, if he’s running a HUD [heads-up display], he probably knows I open more than most players under the gun. That could make his three-bet a little bit lighter, but nonetheless, I expect him to have a pretty tight range here. I’m looking to flop a set or a board where I can continue. Of course, there are a lot of boards I’m giving up on, but I’m just getting such a good price in position, especially to play for stacks on a good flop against a relatively tight range. And the flop is . He checks to you. Tell me about why you decided betting is better than slow-playing. I really like a bet here as part of my entire range. I think that checking back a set here may be lucrative in a vacuum, but for my range, I actually want to be betting here quite a lot. This is a board where my opponent is likely to be check-folding a decent amount of hands. It’s very unlikely he’s three-betting pocket sixes, sevens, nines or eight-ten out of the blinds. It’s much more likely that I have those hands defending the three-bet. My range hits this board a whole lot harder than his, so when he checks here, I want to be betting with my pocket sixes or with whatever hands I could have here on a bluff. In this spot, he ended up check-folding. I imagine he had something like ace-king or ace-queen that he was just taking a check-folding line with. I would expect him to check-call with an overpair sometimes. Although, I would expect him to bet that on the flop. Just in terms overall, I think I should be betting this board with my sets and all my air.

The November Niners
The November Niners Now that the last remaining players to compete on one of the most famous, one of the most prestigious and definitely the one of the richest sporting event in the world, are completed, its time to learn a bit of them and have a taste of what could happen in the poker table come November. Dennis Phillips Dennis is a 53-year old truck driver from St. Louis, Missouri. With 900 grand in his pocket and a shot for couple of millions more, expect this humble but eager tournament amateur to slug it out against the established veteran of the trade. Ivan Demidov Ivan is a professional poker player from Moscow who cashed in on three events and landed on the Main Event finals. Surprised as he was, expect this soft-spoken online poker hotshot to twist the tables around in November. Scott Montgomery Scott is a Canadian resident who has the killer combination in WSOP a big bankroll and lots of experience. For those who tune in other tournaments, youve probably seen Scott in LA Poker Classic in 2008 where he finished fifth with almost 300 grand. Peter Eastgate Peter is a 22-year old poker player who hails from Denmark. But make no hasty remarks about his age because this young player is one of Denmarks recognized online professional players since 2005. He cashed $10,000 dollars in for a chance at the felt table, and what do you know, after much of the 6,800 heads are gone, one of the youngest player this year is sitting on the poker table this November. Ylon Schwartz Ylon is a chess player who has been gambling for 25 of his 38 years. He has made his living out of playing poker for several years, and he has no plans of stopping right now. He was the player who has the most number of cash-in in WSOP event with 12. Should he win, expect him to be out of sight for sometime because this New Yorker plans to escape to where you least expect him to be. Darus Suharto Canadian Darus Suharto is set to follow the footsteps of an unknown accountant who shocked the world how number crunchers play poker. An Indonesian-born residing in Toronto Canada, expect Moneymaker-incarnate try to turn an $80 investment into multi-million dollar prize money. David Rheem Probably the most famous of the nine, David Chino Rheem has made several previous appearances in WSOP final table. This 28-year-old professional poker player has been playing poker since he was 18. With fear set aside and Lady Luck in place, Chino is ready to take on the final table challenge. Craig Marquis This 23-year-old poker player hailing from Arlington, Texas is the one who beat Hamricks AJ out of the tournament with pocket queens. Expect Lady Luck to flutter around this young poker player, especially when you realized he was just playing poker for 18 months. Kelly Kim He maybe a wee bit shorthanded when it comes to bankroll, but dont expect him to back out just yet. A California-based business analyst who traded his portfolio for some chips, he has four months worth of time to think about how to make his narrow way to victory this November.
